ARRL/RAC Field Day 2014

Postby va3msv » Sun Jun 15, 2014 8:54 pm

June 28-29, 2014

Field Day is an annual amateur radio exercise encouraging emergency communications preparedness among amateur radio operators. In the United States and Canada, it is typically the largest single emergency preparedness exercise in the country, with over 30,000 operators participating each year. Field Day is always the fourth full weekend of June, beginning at 1800 UTC Saturday and running through 2059 UTC Sunday. Field Day is frequently used to attract significant publicity for amateur radio, and some clubs simultaneously demonstrate technologies including single sideband voice, Morse code, digital modes (such as RTTY, PSK31, and Winlink, among others), and communication via amateur radio satellite.

Members of the London Amateur Radio Club has been participating in this annual exercise since at least 1961 if not earlier. Anyone interested in radio and what we can do in an emergency is welcome to come out and take a look. We will be located at Reservoir Park on top of snake hill on Commissioners Road. We begin setting up around noon on June 28th with the hope to start making radio contacts at 2:00pm. This is a 24 hour exercise so we will have people operating radios through out the night until 2:00pm on Sunday when we begin tear down. Our plan is to have up 8 stations at once.

Come out and check us out. Come out and contact other ham radio operators throughout North America. You don't have to be licensed to operate one of our radios on Field Day weekend if you are at our site.

Hope to see you there. Just ask for me and I will show you around our little tent city for the weekend.
